Oxidizers don't burn themselves, but they dramatically accelerate a fire involving anything combustible nearby — which is why they need storage rules distinct from ordinary corrosive chemicals.
Keep Away From Combustibles and Organic Material
Bleaching powder, calcium hypochlorite granules and hydrogen peroxide should never be stored near wood, paper, fabric, oils, or organic chemicals — contact or even proximity under the wrong conditions (heat, contamination) can trigger self-accelerating decomposition or ignition. Store oxidizers in their own dedicated area, physically separated from flammable and combustible material.
Temperature and Contamination Control
Calcium hypochlorite is particularly sensitive to heat and contamination — decomposition accelerates with rising temperature and can become self-sustaining if the product overheats, so storage areas need to stay cool and out of direct sun. Keep containers sealed when not in use and never return unused product to its original container after it's been decanted, since contamination can trigger the same accelerated decomposition.

Hydrogen Peroxide-Specific Notes
Hydrogen peroxide slowly decomposes into water and oxygen even in normal storage, which is why containers need venting rather than a fully airtight seal — a sealed container can build pressure over time. Store away from metals and other contaminants that catalyse faster decomposition, and out of direct sunlight.
