What is a decolorant polymer?

Dyes that are not fixed on the fabric leave the dyehouse in the wastewater, and many of them — reactive, acid and direct dyes in particular — stay dissolved and pass straight through ordinary coagulation, leaving the treated effluent coloured.

A decolorant polymer such as SunDec is a cationic, dicyandiamide-based resin. Its positive charge combines with the negatively charged dye molecules to form insoluble complexes, which are then removed with the floc in the clarifier. It is usually used together with a coagulant such as SunPac PAC and a flocculant such as SunFloc.

Applications

Where SunDec is used

Textile dyeing & printing

Colour removal in effluent from dyeing, printing and processing units.

Other dye-bearing wastewater

Decolourising treatment in similar coloured industrial effluents.

With coagulant + flocculant

As part of a primary treatment sequence alongside PAC or alum and a polyelectrolyte.

Effluent compliance

Helping reduce colour in treated effluent before discharge or further treatment.

Dosing and trials

Dose, dosing point and pH depend on the dyes and the effluent. Run a jar test on your own effluent first — we can help you plan the trial.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is a decolorant used for in textile effluent?

A decolorant removes dissolved dye colour from wastewater. It reacts with the dye molecules to form insoluble particles that are then settled out with the floc in the clarifier.

What is SunDec SC05 made of?

SunDec SC05 is a dicyandiamide resin, supplied as a colourless to yellow liquid with 48.0 – 52.0% non-volatile solids.

Is a decolorant used alone?

Usually not. It is normally used with a coagulant such as PAC or alum and a polyelectrolyte flocculant. A jar test sets the best order and dose.

How is SunDec packed and how long does it keep?

SunDec SC05 is supplied in drums and has a shelf life of 24 months per the specification sheet.

Who manufactures SunDec?

SunDec is manufactured by Suraj Chemicals, Chennai, and sold under our own trademarked Sun Brand.
